The contractor’s tax calendar
Everything in the general calendar, plus the deadlines and habits that only hit trades and contracting businesses.
Free · Built for incorporated trades with crews and subs
The contractor extras
- T5018 slips for every subcontractor you paid 6 months after your reporting period
- T4s for the crew Last day of February
- Source deductions on crew payroll, regular remitters 15th of each month
- WSIB premium reporting (Ontario), per your reporting frequency Set by WSIB
- HST returns, most contractors file quarterly or annually Per your filer type
The habits that save trades real money
Photograph every receipt at the counter. Materials, fuel, tools, rentals: the HST on each one is an input tax credit you can claim back. Receipts that die in the truck are tax you paid twice.
Track sub payments as you make them. E-Transfers with no paper trail become a January archaeology project. A running record per sub makes T5018 season a non-event and keeps you covered if CRA asks who you paid.
Keep payroll records WSIB-ready. Clearance certificates and premium balancings are painless when payroll records are clean all year, and painful any other way.
The sub tracking, the payroll records, and every filing behind them are also, not coincidentally, what taxifi takes over: accounting for trades & contractors.
