What a small business accountant should actually do
Most owner-managed corporations do not need complicated accounting. They need four things done properly and on time: books that reflect reality, payroll that reaches CRA on schedule, filings that are not late, and someone who answers when a question comes up. The trouble is that the traditional model delivers those in batches — books reconciled quarterly, advice priced by the hour, the corporate return assembled months after the year it describes.
By the time the numbers arrive, the decisions they should have informed have already been made.
All four, in one monthly price
taxifi covers bookkeeping, payroll, tax, and business advisory as a single service rather than four separate engagements. AI does the daily work — categorizing and reconciling transactions as they land — and a Canadian accountant reviews, advises, signs, and files.
Your year-end corporate tax return is included in the monthly price. There is no separate invoice in the spring for the T2, which is where flat-fee arrangements usually turn out not to be flat.
What sets the price
Four things: how many transactions run through the business in a typical month, how many bank accounts and payment processors we connect and balance, how complex the business is (multiple currencies, subcontractor reporting, revenue recognized over time), and how many people you pay. We ask about each on a discovery call and quote one number, live, before you hang up. Our pricing page walks through each factor.
Switching accountants
You do not have to wait for year-end. Switching takes about an hour of your time — we request your file and history from your current accountant and pick it up from there — and the first month is guaranteed. Our guide on switching accountants in Ontario covers what to ask for before you go.

Common questions
What does a small business accountant actually do?
For an owner-managed corporation it comes down to four things: keeping the books accurate, running payroll and remitting source deductions, filing HST and the year-end corporate tax return (T2), and answering the questions that come up in between. taxifi does all four under one flat monthly price.
How much does a small business accountant cost in Canada?
It depends on four things: how many transactions run through the business each month, how many bank and card accounts we connect, how complex the business is, and how many people you pay. We scope those on a discovery call and quote one flat monthly number on the call, with your year-end T2 included rather than billed separately in the spring.
Do I need to be incorporated?
taxifi is built for incorporated, HST-registered Canadian businesses, usually with employees or subcontractors on payroll. If you are still a sole proprietor, our guide on incorporating in Ontario covers when the switch makes sense.
Can I switch from my current accountant partway through the year?
Yes. Switching is free and takes about an hour of your time: we request your file and history from your current accountant and take it from there. Your first month is guaranteed.
